SES production access
New AWS accounts start in the SES sandbox, where you can send only to addresses you’ve verified. Sandbox status and quotas are separate in each Region, so request production access in the Region you registered with us.
Request production access
Section titled “Request production access”- In the console’s Setup page, copy the request text. It describes how you collect consent, handle unsubscribes, bounces and complaints, and send in stages, and asks for the daily quota that fits your plan (below).
- In the AWS console, switch to your Region, open Amazon SES, then Account dashboard → Request production access.
- Choose Marketing as the mail type, enter your website, and paste the request text.
- Keep the daily quota the text asks for, unless you know you need more. The
quotacheck needs at least 10,000, or your number of subscribed contacts if that’s more. - Submit the request. AWS usually replies within a day.
The request text asks for:
| Plan | Daily quota asked for |
|---|---|
| Starter | 25,000 emails a day |
| Growth | 150,000 emails a day |
| Scale | 500,000 emails a day |
Check it worked: the ses_production and quota checks show "ok": true.
curl "$BASE/health" -H "Authorization: Bearer $KEY"You can also read your account’s status straight from SES:
aws sesv2 get-account --region us-east-2 \ --query '{production: ProductionAccessEnabled, sending: SendingEnabled, quota: SendQuota}'If AWS asks for more
Section titled “If AWS asks for more”AWS sometimes asks how you built your list or how you handle complaints. Answer from what’s true of your list, and mention that:
- every subscribed contact has a consent record with its source and time,
- imports carry every unsubscribe, bounce and complaint across as suppressed, and remove unengaged contacts before the first send,
- every email has a one-click unsubscribe and your physical address,
- campaigns pause themselves when hard bounces pass 2% or complaints pass 0.1%.
While you wait
Section titled “While you wait”You can do everything except send to your list: add your DNS records, import your contacts, and create a template. Test sends to addresses you’ve verified in SES work in the sandbox.
